<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2008-~ <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF <br />THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, <br />APPROVING THE GENERATOR INCENTIVE <br />PLAN FOR GAS STATIONS, SUPERMARKETS, <br />CONVENIENCE STORES, AND PHARMACIES IN <br />THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH; <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL <br />THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE <br />TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in the past two years, due to hurricanes and other sever weather <br />patterns, the City was exposed to long lasting power outages which greatly impacted our <br />resident's wellbeing, and the City's economy; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it has been proven that for a small to mid-size business being <br />without power even for just a few hours can mean thousands of dollars in lost revenue, as <br />well as the health and safety of residents who can be potentially compromised if power <br />supply is not provided in the event of an emergency; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in recognizing the importance of having enough gas stations, <br />pharmacies, and stores prepared for an emergency, the Building and Finance <br />Departments have worked on an incentive plan that will encourage the installation of <br />generators in key retail establishments in the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it has been determined that the estimated cost of equipment and <br />installation per location is between $20,000.00 and $25,000.00, depending on the type of <br />installation and service requirements for the facility, with the total cost to the City <br />estimated between $100,000.00 and $150,000.00; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the incentive plan will consist of having an agreement with the <br />owners of businesses such as gas stations, grocery stores, pharmacies, and convenience <br />stores desiring to have the equipment installed, who will pay 50% of the installation <br />costs, with the remainder 50% being paid by the City through the use of Police Forfeiture <br />Funds; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the agreement will stipulate that those businesses desiring to take <br />advantage of the incentive plan will guaranty the usage of the equipment during <br />outages/emergencies, or the City will force re-payment of the investment, and business <br />owners will also agree to provide regular maintenance of the equipment, and keep the <br />generator on the property for at least ten (10) years; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission now desires to approve the Generator <br />Incentive Plan with the proposed implementation date of April 28, 2008. <br /> <br />R2008- Generator Incentive Plan <br /> <br />Page I 01'2 <br />
