RESOLUTION NO. 2008- I ~ '1 5 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF TWO (2) GLOBAL ELECTRIC MOTORCARS (GEM) MODEL EL ELECTRIC PICK-UP TRUCKS FOR THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWENTY-ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($21,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach approved the hiring of several new employees for the Public Works Department, along with the purchase of vehicles for those employees; and WHEREAS, the City put forth an extensive search for alternatives and located an American manufacturer, Global Electric Motorcars (GEM), a subsidiary of Chrysler Motor Company, who manufactures street legal small electric pick-up trucks; and WHEREAS, these pick-up trucks are made of aluminum, use a standard twelve volt battery, can travel up to 40 MPH, will have a stake-bed platform to haul materials and trash, can be charged from a regular household outlet, and are small enough that they can travel on sidewalks; and WHEREAS, the City desires to purchase two electric pick-up trucks from GEM for the Public Works Department, in an amount not to exceed Twenty-One Thousand Dollars ($21,000.00). NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Authorization of Purchase. The City Commission hereby authorizes the purchase of two (2) Global Electric Motorcars (GEM) Model EL Electric Pick-Up Trucks for the Public Works Department, in an amount not to exceed Twenty-One Thousand Dollars ($21,000.00). Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date.
