<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2008-~ <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, NOMINATING THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH FOR THE "FLORIDA CITY OF EXCELLENCE <br />AWARD" THROUGH THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES; <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS <br />NECCESARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Florida League of Cities, Inc., provides awards for the past year <br />recognizing and honoring outstanding cities, citizens, and city leaders through their Florida <br />Cities of Excellence Awards Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach wishes to nominate <br />the City for the 2008 Florida City of Excellence A ward; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach was incorporated in 1997; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, within a short period of time, the City has been transformed from a sleepy <br />coastal community to a major luxury resort community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, members of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach have <br />shown initiative, integrity, vision, innovation, leadership and commitment to its citizens and <br />visitors during their tenure on the City Commission; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under the leadership of Mayor Norman S. Ede1cup, the City realized its <br />state-of-the-art, technologically-advanced K-8 school scheduled to open in August 2008 in <br />Sunny Isles Beach for its 1,500 students, adjacent to the Pelican Community Park, including the <br />new Community Center and baseball field which can be used for recreational purposes <br />associated with the school; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Mayor Norman S. Edelcup and Commission have sponsored legislation to <br />ensure and preserve the integrity of the City's budget, Land Development Regulations, Historic <br />Preservation Board Standards, to name a few; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Mayor Norman S. Ede1cup and City Commission understanding the <br />importance of open space/park land for a community resulted in the creation of the City's new <br />Heritage Park, and Bella Vista Bay Park, for the use and enjoyment of residents and visitors to <br />the City, envisioning more parks and open space for this City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach would be a deserving recipient of the Florida <br />City of Excellence A ward because of the many accomplishments this past year for the betterment <br />of the residents and visitors of the City of Sunny Isles Beach. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Nomination for the 2008 Florida Cities of Excellence Award.
