Edelcup as Mayor of the Year RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution nominating Mayor Norman S. Edelcup for Mayor of the Year for the Florida League of Cities 5th Annual Florida Cities of Excellence A wards Program. REASONS: The Florida League of Cities, Inc. is seeking nominations for its fifth annual Florida Cities of Excellence Awards Program. The goal of the program is to focus public attention on the countless good things cities and individuals do to improve the quality of life in Florida. The program has ten award (10) categories, one of which is Mayor ofthe Year. Mayor of the Year honors a mayor for his/her outstanding civic commitment, leadership, public outreach, and service to the City during the past year. Our Mayor exemplifies all of these virtues and characteristics, and under his leadership the City realizes a state-of-the-art K-8 community school; the planning of two additional parks; a dog park; storm water drainage improvements; and the revitalization of Sunny Isles Boulevard. For these accomplishments and more, I hereby nominate the Honorable Mayor Norman S. Edelcup, for Mayor of the Year for the Florida League of Cities 5th Annual Florida Cities of Excellence A wards Program. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Nominators must return a short narrative and up to ten (10) pages of supportive information to the Florida League of Cities by August I I, 2008 for each individual or city nominated. Further, nominations must be approved by a majority vote of the City Commission and be certified by the City Clerk. The winners will be announced in Orlando on November 21, 2008.
