City of Sunny Isles Beach City Commission Agenda 18070 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isle Beach, FL 33160 (305) 947-0606 Phone (305) 949-3113 Fax AGENDA BILL REQUESTED ACTION It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution approving the purchase and installation of a shade cover structure for Town Center Park from Sun Shade, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $28,500. BACKGROUND We have had some serious concerns about the shade covers that were in place at Town Center Park. They were structurally unsound and many times came undone because of the wind speed in that area. After repeated attempts to reinforce and repair the structure, the decision was made to remove the shade covers and related items for safety reasons. As the summer is fast approaching, staff began to research this issue for a more durable shade cover system. Staff has found an alternative shade cover system that withstands a higher wind load capacity. The proposed shade cover system can be easily removed prior to imminent adverse weather conditions and conveniently restored shortly after. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Broward County has been using these shade cover systems for some years in several of their parks and a great example is located at Topeekeegee Yugnee ("T.Y.") Park. We are piggybacking a contract awarded by Broward County (Bid No. Q908279FF). Additionally, several quotes were obtained and Sun Shade's was the lowest, most responsive.
