RESOLUTION NO. 2016-21.008 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br /> SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR <br /> THE INSTITUTE FOR SEFARDI AND ANOUSIM STUDIES <br /> (ISAS) AT NETANYA ACADEMIC COLLEGE IN ISRAEL FOR <br /> ITS EFFORTS IN PROMOTING CULTURAL HERITAGE AND <br /> BRINGING TOGETHER JEWS AND CHRISTIANS OF LATIN <br /> ANCESTRY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL <br /> THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; <br /> PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, the Institute for Sefardi and Anousim Studies (ISAS) at Netanya Academic <br /> College in Israel was created in response to the incredible phenomenon of the descendants of the <br /> forced converts (Anousim) in medieval Spain and Portugal awakening to their Jewish heritage; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the ISAS promotes research on the historical and contemporary <br /> development of the crypto-Jews of Iberian origin, as well as other groups such as the Mashadis <br /> of Iran; and <br /> WHEREAS, ISAS offer seminars, courses, and conferences to educate the public about <br /> this phenomenon and its contemporary ramifications in Israel and around the world; and <br /> WHEREAS, ISAS also offers assistance to those seeking confirmation of their Jewish <br />• <br /> ancestry through genealogical research; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to express support of the Institute for Sefardi <br /> and Anousim Studies (ISAS) at Netanya Academic College in Israel for its efforts in promoting <br /> cultural heritage and bringing together Jews and Christians of Latin Ancestry. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY <br /> OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Support of the Institute for Sefardi and Anousim Studies. The City Commission <br /> hereby supports the Institute for Sefardi and Anousim Studies (ISAS) at Netanya Academic <br /> College in Israel. <br /> Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all <br /> things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. <br /> Section 3. Effective Date.
