Part of that process was to also develop an RFP to select an
experienced Contractor. We also went through that process and chose Ashbritt.
This firm specializes in this exact type of work. To ensure that they would be
here when we needed them, the Commission wisely required a performance
bond. Ashbritl did not acquire the bond last year, stating that they would have to
make a cash out-of-pocket payment without any guarantee that they would in
fact be awarded any work. That turned out to be the case because we had no
hurricanes impacting Sunny Isles Beach. They have proposed, and staff agrees,
that the City pay the annual bond premium cost (approximately $5,500) and if an
event occurs, Ashbritl would then reimburse the City for all bond premiums paid
to date. We are therefore asking your approval of this process, a very
inexpensive "insurance policy" in case of a natural disaster.

FUNDING SOURCE:

The funds would come from Account Number 10-539-5344, for Emergency
Recovery .

Agenda Item ~ 0 ~

http://sibagenda.sibfl.net/agenda/Preview. aspx?I temI D=3 6&M eetingID: Date

G.-\~-O~
