<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2010 -...L5l.::l. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO APPLY FOR, RECEIVE AND ACCEPT BY <br />EXECUTION OF, A GRANT MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT <br />WITH THE STATE OF FLORIDA, DEPARTMENT OF <br />AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES, DIVISION OF <br />FORESTRY, TO IMPROVE THE CONDITION OF THE CITY'S <br />TREE CANOPY, FOR UP TO THE AMOUNT OF TWENTY-FOUR <br />THOUSAND DOLLARS ($24,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTION NECESSARY <br />WITH RESPECT TO THE OBTAINING AND DISTRIBUTION OF <br />GRANT MONIES, AS APPROPRIA TE; PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, trees are an important part of our community, and the Florida Urban Forest <br />Health Initiative is to improve the overall health of community forests by providing grants to <br />local governments and non-profit groups; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Florida Urban Forest Health Initiative has grants available in the <br />amount of $1.4 Million, with no matching grants; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach desires to apply for a Forest Health <br />Improvement Initiative Grant which would provide monies to improve the condition of the <br />City's tree canopy; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach wishes to enter into a Forest Health <br />Improvement Initiative Grant Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Sunny Isles <br />Beach, Florida, and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, in the <br />amount of up to Twenty-Four Thousand Dollars ($24,000.00) to improve the condition of the <br />City's tree canopy. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Support of City Commission. The City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles <br />Beach hereby supports the improvement of the condition of the City's tree canopy. <br /> <br />Section 2. Authorization of City Manager to Apply For. Accept and Expend Grant Funds. <br />The City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach hereby authorizes the City Manager to <br />apply for, receive, and accept by the execution of, a Forest Health Improvement Initiative Grant <br />Memorandum of Agreement, and to expend funds in the amount of up to Twenty-Four Thousand <br />Dollars ($24,000.00) should we be successful in obtaining a grant to improve the condition of the <br />City's tree canopy. <br /> <br />R201O- rIa Forcst Health Improvcmcot Initiati\"C Grant Application <br /> <br />Pagc 1 of 2 <br />
