Dannheisser. Ciry Atiorney
Jane A. Hines, City Clerk
It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Ordinance.
REASONS:
The Board of County Commissioners for Miami -Dade County adopted an
Ordinance, which requires municipalities to adopt a Historic Preservation
Ordinance if they do not want to be subject to the jurisdiction of Miami -Dade
County Historic Preservation Board. Thus, this Ordinance seeks to provide the City
with jurisdiction over the designation of historic properties within the boundaries
of the City.
The attached Ordinance essentially provides for the creation of a historical
preservation board, which will be responsible for protecting historical sites within
the City. The Board shall consist of five (5) members and each member of the City
Commission shall appoint one member to the Board. The Mayor shall appoint the
Chairperson.
The Ordinance also provides for standards and review for the preservation of
historical properties within the City. More specifically, the Board is required to
make recommendations to the City Commission regarding the designation of
historic landmarks.
U:IattoneylDepury City AttomcyU004 DocumentsUdecommendation on Historic Preservation Ordinance.docHismric Preservation Board
