Thaler <br /> <br />DATE: June 17,2010 <br /> <br />RE: Amendment to Chapter 256 to include bicycle regulations <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />This Ordinance is presented for your consideration. <br /> <br />REASONS: <br /> <br />The purpose of the Ordinance is to promote bicycle safety in the City. <br /> <br />As part of a bicycle safety initiative, the City created a new bicycle path running from 183rd <br />Street to 174th Street on the sidewalk area. In order to promote safe and efficient bicycle travel in <br />the City, bicycle rules and regulations are necessary to educate and protect the general public. <br /> <br />In furtherance of this objective, I am recommending the adoption of the attached Ordinance, <br />which includes specific bicycle rules and regulations consistent with state and county law. By <br />adopting this Ordinance, the City Commission will help promote bicycle safety awareness in the <br />City. <br />
