DESIGN APPROACH

Savino & Miller Design Studio is committed to a collaborative approach to planning and design. We understand and
believe in the importance of teamwork and effective communication in delivering a successful project.

Our background and experience in landscape architecture, urban design, architecture and planning give us a unique
insight into the various elements and forces which shape our built environment. Our method begins with:

1. A thorough understanding of community goals as articulated in the design program. Discussion with the client
in regard to how the space is to be used - or "programmed" - is essential in determining our design
responses, such as the ratio between paved and green space, building/shade structures vs. open space,
utility/mechanical requirements, park hours, and so on.

2. An analysis of site factors such as proposed user analysis (i.e. adults, elderly, children, pets), local climate,
physical factors including soils, surrounding land use, and socio-cultural context and historical overlay.

3. Analysis of anticipated park management models and maintenance resources.

Over the course of our projects, we have found that one of the most important aspects a design firm can bring to its public
clients is COMMITMENT. We have been tested and proven to work with our public partners in bringing projects of the
highest design quality to fruition.

Generally, the following is an outline description of the Scope of Work to be provided by the Savino and Miller Design
Studio pursuant to the City of Sunny Isles Scope of Work.

DESIGN I REGULATORY PROCESS

Generally, projects follow the general process outlined below:
A. Project Kick-Off Meeting
B. Visioning Sessions with City Staff and Community if appropriate
C. Develop Concept Alternatives
1. Preliminary Budgets
D. Design Workshops (if desired by City)
E. Design Report with Costs Estimates (As needed)
1 . Review of Draft Design Report
2. Revisions and Submission of Final Design Report
F. Contract Negotiation - Construction Documents and Administration
G. Assistance to City in Bid-Award of Construction Contract
1. Attendance at Pre-Bid Conference
2. Prepare Addenda as necessary
3. Attend Bid Opening
4. Assist in Bid Evaluation and Recommendation of Award
5. As-Bid Documents
H. Construction Phase Services

Additionally, SMDS is familiar with the local and state codes and permitting requirements.
