South Miami Downtown Improvements, Phases 1-4
As part of the Hometown Plan implementation, the City of South Miami improved segments of SW
73rd Street, 74th Street, SW 57th Avenue, 58th Court, and 59th Avenue in the downtown area.
These streetscape improvements are a continuation of the themes and patterns established in the
improvements to Sunset Drive - the primary downtown street. Streetscape elements included 1
wider sidewalks, landscaping, parallel parking, lighting, street furniture, and the pedestrianization of
the intersections. Additionally, these Improvements included watermain extensions and new
drainage systems. These updated systems were vital to allow the downtown area to develop and
expand. A variety of federal and state grants were leveraged and combined to assemble the
project funding.
Reference:
City of South Miami
4795 SW 75th Avenue
South Miami, Florida 33155
Mr. Rudy de la Torre, Public Works Director (305) 663-6350

Plantation Midtown Improvements & Greenway Transit
The entire project consisted of revitalizing the entire central business district of the City and creating
a mixed use area conducive to pedestrian friendly use and access. In addition to the roadway design
components, C3TS master planned the first three phases and also performed a drainage study for
the entire 1800 acre Midtown area where each individual drainage basin was evaluated and
recommendations were made for improvements to each basin as they are developed. The first phase
required major drainage modifications to existing permits to the individual systems affected through
both the local water control district as well as the water management district whereby the City has
negotiated maintenance responsibilities with the individual property owners. The system upgrades
allow greater discharges into adjacent water bodies and reduces the chance for localized flooding.
The construction inspection services included on site personnel to provide the construction
engineering administration services inclusive of construction inspection services including but not
limited to overseeing, coordinating and inspecting the work of surveyors and construction contractors.
Responsibilities included monitoring, record keeping, approving and recommending
requisitions for compensation, review of change orders, estimations, claims,
scheduling, shop drawings and remedial designs.
Reference:
City of Plantation
Office of City Engineer / Capital Improvements Projects
17050 N.E. 19th Avenue
North Miami Beach, Florida 33162
Brett Butler, PE (954) 797-2282

0.. _
~

~.

Belle Meade Stormwater Pump Station & Drainage Improvements
Belle Meade is a 45-acre, single family, residential neighborhood located in the
northeastern portion of the City of Miami adjacent to Biscayne Bay. Over the
years, problems with the inadequate drainage infrastructure, tidally influenced
groundwater, site elevation, and deteriorating streets created a condition of
moderate to severe flooding in the area. The City commissioned C3TS to perform a
drainage study and best alternative drainage solutions for the problems at Belle
Meade. The final design would consider the most effective drainage design,
inconvenience during construction, permitting and environmental concerns,
effectiveness and reliability, cost, maintenance, and operation. The City's design
criteria was that a five-year storm have no ponding and that a ten-year storm have
no more that six inches of ponding at the inlets. As an important step in the design process, an AICPR@ (Interconnected Pond
Routing Model) model was developed. The model was run and calibrated based on existing conditions.
