Thc l\Il-[D bridgc <br />projects include the rating of stcel truss bridges; rating of <br />a three hinged steel arch bridge, the rating of four <br />concrete arch bridges and the design of a through girder <br />bridge over the Boston and 0.[aine <br />(B&l\f)/0.[assachusetts Bay Transit [\uthority (0.nrL\) <br />railroad superstructure rcplacement. <br /> <br />He was responsible for the bridge elemcnts of the <br />Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) <br />Engineering Services Contract and design of a 120 ft <br />steel through girder bridge and the transition picr for the <br />railroad spur over the Tehuacana Creek, as part of the <br />TXU Electric, Big Brown Steam Elcctric Station Rail <br />Spur. <br /> <br />He was responsible for supervising the final design of 12 <br />miscellaneous bridges including the design of six multi- <br />span prestressed, precast, concrctc bulb-tee stringer <br />bridges ranging from 90 ft to 440 ft long for the [-90/1- <br /> <br />93 Southbound Interchange Project. He was, also, <br />responsible for the design of numerous tcmporary <br />bridges for this project including the superstructure <br />dcsign of 20 span, 1800 ft long composite concretc-filled <br />steel grid deck and girder \'iaduct and for the <br />construction phasc sC1Tices for this \'iaduct. <br /> <br />He was also responsible for the design of Albany Street <br />and Ramp Q interchange steel box girder bridge and <br />developing the interchange structural geometry for <br />concrete transitions between surface roadway and <br />tunnel. <br /> <br />[\s a Senior Structural Engineer, he \vas responsiblc for <br />the development of a computcr program that dctennines <br />the livc load force in thc truss members of a bridge for <br />standard AASHTO and i\[assachusetts-specific truck <br />loads, including truck trains. This program is used in the <br />rating of bridges. <br /> <br />i\lr. Johnston has been responsible for the de\'elopmcnt <br />of thc design criteria, geometry, and preliminary dcsign <br />aspects of the Personal Rapid Transit Test Track <br />Guideway. He has been responsible for the schematic <br />design alignment and \'ehiclc geomctrics of the i\lBT.\ <br />South Boston/Fort Point Channel Transitway Projcct, a <br />1.5-mile underground, articulated trollcy bus <br />transportatlon systcm. <br /> <br />0.11'. Johnston has been a Cost Account l\Ianager for <br />several nuclear plant facilities. As a Cost I\ccount <br />i\[anager, he is responsible for the schcduling of work, <br />engineering, and the design cost of the facilities that he <br />manages. He has also becn an Assistant Lead Enginecr <br />on a nuclear project. <br /> <br />He has performcd \'arious types of dynamic analysis <br />including e(luivalent static, response spectra, and elasto- <br />plastic impact analysis. These analyzes ha\'e been <br />performed for several nuclear power plant projects. <br />These analyzes range from sub-system building analysis <br />to commodities (cable tray and conduit) support <br />systems, to hazard analysis (including the effects of high- <br />energy pipe breaks and tornado missile on building <br />stmctures). <br /> <br />He has been responsiblc for thc design and evaluation of <br />many types of stcel structures, including the design of <br />support systems for conduit and cable trays, work <br /> <br />SHAW ENVIRONMENTAL.
