He was responsible for the bridge elemcnts of the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) Engineering Services Contract and design of a 120 ft steel through girder bridge and the transition picr for the railroad spur over the Tehuacana Creek, as part of the TXU Electric, Big Brown Steam Elcctric Station Rail Spur. He was responsible for supervising the final design of 12 miscellaneous bridges including the design of six multi- span prestressed, precast, concrctc bulb-tee stringer bridges ranging from 90 ft to 440 ft long for the [-90/1- 93 Southbound Interchange Project. He was, also, responsible for the design of numerous tcmporary bridges for this project including the superstructure dcsign of 20 span, 1800 ft long composite concretc-filled steel grid deck and girder \'iaduct and for the construction phasc sC1Tices for this \'iaduct. He was also responsible for the design of Albany Street and Ramp Q interchange steel box girder bridge and developing the interchange structural geometry for concrete transitions between surface roadway and tunnel. [\s a Senior Structural Engineer, he \vas responsiblc for the development of a computcr program that dctennines the livc load force in thc truss members of a bridge for standard AASHTO and i\[assachusetts-specific truck loads, including truck trains. This program is used in the rating of bridges. i\lr. Johnston has been responsible for the de\'elopmcnt of thc design criteria, geometry, and preliminary dcsign aspects of the Personal Rapid Transit Test Track Guideway.
