All <br />couplings shall be leakproof. <br />16200 -14 <br />03- 1438.A -R <br />6) Length - Casings and uncased carrier pipes shall be of sufficient <br />length to extend under all pavements and in no case shall the end <br />of the casing be closer than four (4) feet (eight (8) feet preferably) <br />from the pavement edge including paved shoulders, or two (2) feet <br />from back of curb plus additional length as necessary to extend to <br />the excavated slopes of the jacking and receiving pits. Slope <br />detailed in 5.D. of this exhibit. The ends of <br />requirements are <br />under limited access facilities and all casings for flammable <br />casings <br />shall be no closer to the pavement edge (including paved <br />materials <br />shoulders) than the toe of the front slope. Casings may be <br />to extend to the right -of -way limits or frontage roads to <br />required <br />provide for maintenance access on limited access facilities where <br />periodic maintenance activities on the utility are expected. <br />Casings shall also extend beyond pavement areas that are to be <br />widened in the near future when proposal of such widening is <br />supported by a design study. <br />j7) <br />Joints and Couplings <br />a) Steel Pipe <br />i) Couplings - Couplings shall be tight, tack welded if <br />necessary and sufficiently rigid (no noticeably <br />movement in joint) to prevent misalignment during <br />driving or pushing operation. Tack welding of <br />couplings is only required where necessary to ensure <br />the integrity of the joint. <br />Welded Joints - Joint welds shall be made in a neat <br />workmanlike manner, shall be air tight and <br />continuous over the entire circumference of the pipe <br />and shall increase the outside diameter by nor more <br />than 3/4 total. <br />11 09/03 <br />b) Coupling thickness shall be such that the overall casing <br />diameter is increased by no more than 3/4 total.
