SECTION 02200 <br />EARTHWORK <br />PART 1 - GENERAL <br />1.01 SECTION INCLUDES <br />A. Excavation, fill, and backfill. <br />1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE <br />A. Perform excavation work in compliance with applicable requirements of governing <br />authorities having jurisdiction. <br />1.03 PROJECT CONDITIONS <br />A. Locate existing underground utilities in areas of work. Provide adequate means of support <br />and protection during earthwork operations. <br />B. Should uncharted, or incorrectly charted, piping or other utilities be encountered during <br />excavation, consult utility owner immediately for directions. Cooperate with Owner and <br />utility companies in keeping respective services and facilities in operation. Repair <br />damaged utilities to satisfaction of utility owner and at no additional cost to the owner. <br />C. Do not interrupt existing utilities serving occupied facilities. <br />D. Use of Explosives: Not Permitted. <br />E. Protect structures, utilities, sidewalks, pavements, and other facilities from damage caused <br />by settlement, lateral movement, undermining, washout and other hazards created by <br />earthwork operations. <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.01 SOIL MATERIALS <br />A. Satisfactory Soil Materials: ASTM D -2321 soil classification designation Class I, II, and <br />III. <br />B. Unsatisfactory Soil Materials: ASTM D -2321 soil classification designation Class IV and <br />V. <br />C. Subbase Material: Naturally or artificially graded mixture of natural or crushed gravel, <br />crushed stone, crushed slag, natural or crushed sand. <br />D. Drainage Fill: Washed, evenly graded mixture of crushed stone, or crushed or uncrushed <br />gravel, with 100 percent passing a 1 -1/2 in. sieve and not more than 5 percent passing a <br />No. 4 sieve. <br />12/04 02200 -1 04 -4801 <br />
