2. Soils shall be tested for horticultural purposes and the test results shall be submitted to the <br />CONSULTANT accompanied by a recommendation from the testing agency regarding the <br />suitability of the samples and appropriate soil amendments required to correct any <br />detrimental or deficient soil conditions. <br />Testing shall include, but not be limited to, those tests required to determine soil pH and the <br />identification and quantity of soluble salts or other common pollutants that may be in the <br />sample. <br />If the pH of the samples representing the rough grade soil is determined to be in excess of <br />6.5, the entire planting area of the site shall be treated with an application of super -fine <br />wetable sulfur. This amendment shall be applied at a rate of 8 pounds per 1,000 square feet <br />for each whole point of pH in excess of 6.0. The material shall be thoroughly worked into <br />the top 6 inches of the rough grade soil. The soil surface shall then be made smooth and the <br />area completely watered to the full depth of the soil amendment. <br />3.02 SCHEDULE OF WORK <br />A. Stake the proposed location of trees to be planted. The CONSULTANT reserves the right to adjust <br />the location of plant material. <br />B. Excavate planting pits and beds, and prepare fine subgrade. <br />C. Provide plants, fertilizer, planting soil and incidental materials required herein. <br />D. Place plants, backfill and guy or brace plants as required. <br />E. Complete fine grading and incidental Work specified herein. <br />F. Maintain and protect planting, including incidental materials, until end of maintenance period. <br />G. Bracing of palms shall remain in place and its removal shall be the responsibility of the CITY. <br />3.03 FINISH SUBGRADE <br />A. Upon acceptance of the rough grading, establish fine subgrade with smooth and even finish. Remove <br />all rocks more than one inch diameter, sticks, debris and vegetation to a depth of six inches. Final <br />subgrade shall be established as herein specified. Depths are relative to the elevation of the top of <br />curb. <br />3.04 SHIPMENT AND DELIVERY <br />A. Notify the CONSULTANT a minimum of 2 (two) working days in advance of when plant material is <br />to be delivered. <br />B. Plant material shall be protected from weather, adequately packed to prevent breakage and drying out <br />during transit. The use of anti - transparent, in compliance with the manufacturer's specification, is <br />encouraged. <br />C. Plants shall not be planted on job until they have been inspected at receiving site and accepted by <br />CONSULTANT. <br />02900 -6 <br />
