r� <br />filled with epoxy mortar after which the dowel shall be inserted and left <br />undisturbed until the epoxy mortar is hardened. <br />3.18 DEFECTIVE CONCRETE WORK: <br />A. Porous areas, open or porous construction joints and honeycombed <br />concrete will be considered to indicate that the requirements for mixing, <br />placing and handling have not been complied with and will be sufficient <br />' cause for rejection of the members of the structure thus affected. <br />B. Defective work exposed upon removal of forms shall be entirely removed or <br />repaired within 48 hours after forms have been removed. Defective areas <br />will be inspected and repair method approved by the Engineer prior to <br />repairs. <br />C. Repaired areas will not be accepted if: <br />t <br />1. The structural requirements have been impaired by reducing the net <br />section of compression members; <br />2. The bond between the steel and concrete has been reduced; and <br />3. The areas is not finished to conform in every respect to the texture, <br />' <br />contour, and color of the surrounding concrete. <br />D. <br />If the above requirements are not satisfied, the Engineer may require that <br />the members or unit involved be entirely removed and satisfactorily <br />replaced at no additional expense to DCAD. <br />3.19 REPAIR OF SURFACE IMPERFECTIONS: <br />A. <br />As soon as possible after stripping forms, thoroughly clean and fill holes left <br />by form ties, and other temporary inserts, and perform corrective work. <br />B. <br />The surfaces shall be of a generally uniform appearance with regard to <br />color and texture and shall have a smooth finish. <br />C. <br />Small surface holes caused by air bubbles, normal joint form marks and <br />minor chips and spalls will be tolerated in limited areas but not major or <br />unsightly imperfections, honeycombs or structural defects will be permitted <br />without carrying out remedial work, if and as approved by the Engineer, to <br />' <br />remove such imperfections. <br />D. <br />In general, pin holes and hole smaller than 1/4 inch in diameter and not <br />more than 1/2 inch deep may be left unfilled if their distribution is random, if <br />they do not form unsightly clusters, or if they are not rusty or discolored. <br />07/06 <br />03300 -18 05 -5564 <br />t <br />
