C. Troweled Finish: <br />1. After surface has been given a float finish, power trowel the surface <br />to produce a smooth surface which is free of defects but which may <br />still show some trowel marks. Perform additional trowelings by hand <br />after the surface has hardened sufficiently. Consolidate the surface <br />' completely by the hand troweling operations. The finished surface <br />which are to received resilient floor covering or carpet, grind all <br />defects which will show through or cause local wear in the finish <br />materials. Use only wet burlap or plastic sheets to cure. <br />3.24 CURING AND PROTECTION: <br />A. Beginning immediately after placement, protect concrete from premature <br />drying, temperatures above 100 degrees F and below 32 degrees F, and <br />mechanical injury. The materials and methods of curing and protection <br />shall be subject to approval by the Engineer. <br />B. Keep concrete continuously under cure until the accumulated time, during <br />which the temperature of the air in direct contact with the concrete has been <br />warmer than 55 degrees, is at least five days for bottom slabs and footings <br />and seven days for all other concrete. <br />C. Use one of the following methods specified as limited or directed by the <br />Concrete Finish Schedule: <br />1. Ponding: Keep the surface submerged at all times for the required <br />curing period. Do not allow water flow to erode the surface. Keep <br />water clean and free of dirt and debris. <br />2. Continuous fogging: Accomplish by fogging with a nozzle which so <br />atomizes the flow that a mist and not a spray is formed. Do not <br />erode the surface of the concrete. Fog the concrete regularly without <br />rallowing part or all of the surface to dry. <br />3. Wet burlap: Cover the entire area to be cured with double thickness <br />burlap sheet conforming to AASHTO M182, Class 3 or 4, laid directly <br />on the concrete, and keep continuously wet. Polyethylene film, free <br />of holes or tears. Keep sheet fully flat, without wrinkles or air <br />bubbles, held down tautly at all edges. Do not use this method on <br />slabs which will be exposed to view. <br />D. Hot and Inclement Weather Protection: <br />1. Make arrangements for cooling and shading concrete in advance of <br />placement, adequate to maintain the required temperature and <br />moisture conditions without injury to concentration of heat. <br />07/06 03300 -21 05 -5564 <br />
