HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD RESOLUTION NO. 2016- V <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />BOARD OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, <br />APPROVING THE APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF <br />APPROPRIATENESS REQUESTED BY PETITIONERS <br />GEORGE "BUD" SCHOLL AND DIONE DEL MONICO TO <br />CONSTRUCT A SIDE PATIO EXTENSION, TWO (2) <br />TRELLISES, AND A CANOPY ON THE PROPERTY <br />LOCATED AT 334 ATLANTIC AVENUE, SUNNY ISLES <br />BEACH, FLORIDA, ATTACHED HERETO AS ATTACHMENT <br />64A99; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 171-3.D., Code of Ordinances of the City of Sunny Isles <br />Beach, Florida, ("City Code") the Historic Preservation Board has been empowered to approve <br />applications for certificate of appropriateness for a designated historic landmark, which requires <br />determination by the Historic Preservation Board before said certificate can be issued; and <br />WHEREAS, the Water Court Villa and Pergola located on Atlantic Island, at 334 <br />Atlantic Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, has been designated as a local historic landmark, <br />legally described in Plat Book 34, P 17, Lots 71, 72 and Tract marked Pergola Landings was built <br />in 1927, and is a fine example of the homes envisioned by Harvey B. Graves (I 920's) and Kurtis <br />R. Froedtert (1930's), developers of Atlantic Island; and <br />WHEREAS, The Water Court Villa and Pergola is architecturally significant for its <br />Mediterranean style; and <br />WHEREAS, the Miami -Dade County Historic Preservation Board designated this site as <br />an historic site on January 19, 1984; and <br />WHEREAS, the City's Historic Preservation Board re -designated the Water Court Villa <br />and Pergola as an historic site on June 6, 2005; and <br />WHEREAS, the Petitioners George "Bud" Scholl and Dione Del Monico, applied for a <br />Certificate of Appropriateness on August 18, 2016, requesting a side patio extension, two (2) <br />trellises, and a canopy to be built on the west side of the house; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 171-10 of the City Code provides, in relevant part, that the Historic <br />Preservation Board's decision on the application for a certificate of appropriateness be based <br />upon an evaluation of the compatibility of the physical alteration or improvement with <br />surrounding properties, and, where applicable, compliance with A) the Secretary of Interior's <br />Standard for Rehabilitation and Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings, as may be <br />revised from time to time; and B) other guidelines/policies/plans adopted or approved by <br />resolution or ordinance by the City Commission. <br />Resolution No. 2016 - 334 Atlantic Avenue Page 1 of 2 <br />
