RESOLUTION NO. 2011- J ~ 59 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPOINTING JORGE VERA AS "ACTING CITY MANAGER" PENDING THE APPOINTMENT OF A PERMANENT CITY MANAGER BY THE CITY COMMISSION; PROVIDING THE MAYOR AND CITY ATTORNEY WITH THE AUTHORITY TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, our present City Manager, Rick Conner, has submitted his letter of resignation and is retiring effective January 31, 2011; and WHEREAS, the City is in need of an interim City Manager, and pursuant to the City Charter Section 3.3, an Acting City Manager may be appointed until such time a permanent City Manager is appointed; and WHEREAS, the City's Assistant City Manager/Services Jorge Vera is able, willing, and qualified to serve as the Acting City Manager until such time as a permanent City Manager is appointed; and WHEREAS, the City Commission hereby desires to appoint Jorge Vera as Acting City Manager effective February 1, 2011 until a permanent City Manager is appointed by the City Commission. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Appointment of Acting City Manager. The City Commission hereby appoints Jorge Vera as "Acting City Manager" upon the vacancy of the position of City Manager and until the appointment of a permanent City Manager. The City Commission agrees to provide a merit bonus to Acting City Manager upon the completion of service. Section 2. Authorization of Mayor and City Attorney. The Mayor and City Attorney are hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution will become effective upon adoption.
