Universal History and Back~round Established in 1964, Universal, an ENR Top 500 company, is currently ranked at number one hundred eighty five (185) in the entire USA! Universal is one of Florida's most respected and experienced privately owned engineering and testing firms in the country. Universal is still owned and operated by its original founding family, and has a well-established practice along with sufficient manpower to provide all of the aforementioned engineering services to The City of Sunny Isles Beach, on a "most favored" client basis; with no negative impact on our service availability to our other clients locally or statewide. Universal currently employs almost seven- hundred (700) personnel, and operates out of nineteen (19) different offices throughout Georgia and Florida; including Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties. Because of the geographical location of our NE Miami-Dade County office; we can quickly and easily arrive at any locale within the City of Sunny Isles Beach within approximately fifteen (15) to twenty (20) minutes. Local Presence Universal began operations in Florida over forty-four (44) years a~o, and has a long history of providing geotechnical, and environmental engineering, as well as construction materials testing and inspection services to many of the public and private entities in the state of Florida, including; NASA, the School Districts of Martin & Palm Beach Counties, FDOT, Palm Beach and Broward Counties; and for large private corporations such as Lowes, Target, Kohl's, CVS, McDonald's, Exxon-Mobil, and Wal-Mart. Universal was also recently awarded a similar engineering contract by your neighbor to the south, namely the City of Miami Beach, FI. Universal recently provided environmental services at the former Fort Apache Marina site in Sunny Isles Beach, after damage from Hurricane Wilma. On another of our recent projects, Universal provided Construction Material Testing and Radiographic Services for the Ft. Lauderdale - Hollywood International Airport improvement project. Universal is also an innovative company, currently operating the Universal Training Academy, a unique training facility which provides Construction & Engineering related training to both public and private entities such as the FDOT, and interestingly enough, to other engineering and testing firms in our industry. Local Staff Our local Geotechnical Engineering and Materials Testing Departments include Professional Engineers, Geologists, Environmental Engineers, Building Inspectors, Plan Reviewers, CADD Technicians, Certified Welding Inspectors, Drillers, and Experienced Construction Materials Testing Technicians. Universal has its own drilling departments and maintains two (2) full- service geotechnical and materials testing laboratories, located right here in S. E. Florida. With these types of in-house resources, Universal's geotechnical department provides its clients with a multitude of capabilities ranging from preliminary sub-surface investigations through final foundation design. Utilizing the results of field and laboratory testing of soils and groundwater, Universal's geotechnical engineers can analyze existing site conditions to provide our clients with safe, cost-effective construction solutions.
