<br />GENERAL PRACTICES <br />Various responsibilities often fall to a school crossing guard because of the nature of the <br /> <br />job. <br /> <br />RELEASE OF INFORMATION <br /> <br />School crossing guards are not authorized or permitted to furnish to the press or anyone, <br />any information that they may know or have at their possession without a written authorization <br />from the client. This includes information related to the client's company operations, employees, <br />or management. <br /> <br />LOST AND FOUND <br />All lost, stolen, or abandoned property coming into the possession of a school crossing <br />guard shall be tagged, showing where found, date, and by whom, and secured according to your <br />post orders. <br /> <br />LIMITS OF AUTHORITY <br />The school crossing guard should be highly visible and should do as much as possible to <br />prevent a crime illusive act on children. If the security office is unable to prevent a crime, it is <br />then the officer's responsibility to observe, report, and contact immediately the appropriate <br />enforcement authorities, their supervisor, and the client. <br /> <br />The school crossing guard's limit of authority varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. <br />However, school crossing guards have no more power or arrest than any other citizen. <br /> <br />The school crossing guard must be aware of the limitations of his/her powers in order to <br />avoid any suit for damages in the event of a false arrest or illegal search, <br /> <br />It should be noted that under no circumstances are school crossing guards considered <br />police officers and thus have no more authority than the ordinary citizen. <br /> <br />45 <br />
