Maas, Chief of Police <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />6/15/2011 <br /> <br />RE: <br /> <br />Approval to Expend Partial Forfeiture (DOJ) Funds for Public <br />Safety Equipment (Surveillance Cameras and Lighting Prediction & <br />Warning System) in an amount not to exceed $34,943.00 <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />It is recommended that the City Commission approve the expenditure of partial <br />Federal (DOJ) Forfeiture Funds, previously awarded to the Police Department as <br />the results of investigative participation in forfeiture and seizure cases. These <br />funds are permissible by laws to be spent for approved community policing <br />events and other law enforcement activities. It is requested that we be permitted <br />to utilize up to $34,943.00 of said funds on deposit for such purpose. <br /> <br />REASONS: <br /> <br />The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department actively participates in and sponsors <br />approved events, activities, and scholarship programs, etc., designed for <br />enhancing community policing events, public safety equipment and law <br />enforcement relationships. <br /> <br />ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br /> <br />One of the benefits of participating in and providing personnel into high intensity <br />narcotics investigations is the sharing of confiscated proceeds for the continued <br />enhancement of relationships between law enforcement and our community. <br />These specific funds will be utilize to install a Lighting Prediction & Warning <br />System and. a multi-camera surveillance system in our newly built Heritage <br />Community.Park. <br /> <br />FUNDING SOURCE: <br /> <br />u.s.
