<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2011- D!d.3 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY <br />OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE <br />CONCEPTUAL DESIGN PREPARED BY KIMLEY-HORN & <br />ASSOCIATES, INC. THROUGH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT <br />OF TRANSPORT A TION (FDOT), AND A CONSTRUCTION <br />ENHANCEMENT COMMITMENT FOR PEDESTRIAN <br />IMPROVEMENTS AT THE INTERSECTION OF COLLINS <br />AVENUE AND SUNNY ISLES BOULEVARD (SR 826) <br />INCLUSIVE OF P AVER SIDEW ALKS, ST AMPED <br />CROSSWALKS, AND UPGRADED HANDRAILS, IN AN <br />AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS <br />($30,000.00), ATTACHED HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A"; <br />PROVIDING THE CITY MANAGER WITH THE AUTHORITY <br />TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE A MAINTENANCE <br />AGREEMENT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO <br />ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUA TE THIS <br />RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., through the Florida Department of <br />Transportation (FDOT), has completed standard conceptual drawings of improvements <br />recommended for the intersection of Collins Avenue and Sunny Isles Boulevard (SR 826) to <br />protect pedestrians and bicyclists; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the conceptual drawings were developed as a result of citizen concerns over <br />the lack of sight visibility along the approach off southbound Collins A venue onto westbound <br />Sunny Isles Boulevard which concerns were substantiated; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the estimated project cost for the standard FDOT intersection <br />improvements including crosswalks, sidewalks, handrails, and landscaping is $142,000, the <br />estimated cost for City required enhanced crosswalks, concrete pavers for the sidewalk, and <br />landscaping is $167,000.00, and FDOT requested that the City commit local funds for the <br />difference which is approximately $25,000.00, plus $5,000.00 to cover the cost of enhanced <br />handrails not included in the original breakdown; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to approve the Conceptual Design for <br />pedestrian improvements at the intersection located at Collins A venue and Sunny Isles Boulevard <br />(SR 826), and commit to the partial funding of Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000.00) for this <br />project, attached hereto as Exhibit "A". <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Approval of Conceptual Design and Partial Funding. The City Commission <br />hereby approves the Conceptual Design by Kimley-Horn & Associates, Inc., through the Florida <br />Department of Transportation, for pedestrian improvements at the intersection located at Collins <br /> <br />R2011- Kimley-Horn Conceptual Design Collins and SIBlvd Page 1 of2 <br />
