<br />Summary Minutes: Emergency City Commission Meeting October 26,2005 <br /> <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida <br /> <br />Commissioner Iglesias said he spoke with Washington Mutual and they will give City <br />employees money with City badge. Vice Mayor Thaler said that Publix is open and allows <br />$25.00 over purchase price of groceries and that they are selling non-perishable items. He <br />noted that the trucks arrived at Walmart with water and ice at 7:00 p.m. last night but they ran <br />out of supplies. <br /> <br />Mayor Ede1cup noted that Marion Towers and Rebecca Towers are desperate for food. <br />Interim City Manager Maas said that Sandra Block, Administrative Coordinator, Detective <br />Bureau, is the coordinator and will disseminate food. <br /> <br />Commissioner Brezin noted that residents at Arlen House 300 Building have no electricity or <br />water and that they are getting buckets of water from the swimming pool in order to flush <br />their toilets. Clayton L. Parker, Building Official/Administrator, said he will have the Arlen <br />House checked [and will be escorted by Police Officers]. <br /> <br />Commissioner Brezin asked about the bus schedule and Susan Simpson, Cultural and Human <br />Services Director, said that we have the three big blue buses with 'li tank of gas in each, and <br />that she was concerned about getting diesel fuel for the buses. She said she will distribute the <br />shuttle bus schedule and that they will be running seven days a week. She said the downed <br />trees need to be removed at Ocean View, because residents have to walk to Collins Avenue to <br />be picked up. <br /> <br />Interim City Manager Maas said that the most important aspect is communication. He noted <br />that the Command Post is at extension 1886 and that Sandra Block will be manning that Post. <br />He said the first thing will be Marion Towers. He asked that a bus be assigned to the Police <br />Department for specific uses, such as delivering supplies to Marion Towers. He said those <br />that are calling in for information on status of residents or homes, can be referred to the <br />Command Post (305-792-1886). <br /> <br />Interim City Manager Maas said that traffic is a concern although lights are coming back <br />gradually. He said some businesses that were not boarded up had windows blown out. He <br />said curfew is in place and that Police Officers are stationed at the City limits checking <br />motorists for ID and what their business is in Sunny Isles Beach, and noted that there have <br />been no complaints of looting. <br /> <br />3. MOTIONS <br /> <br />3A. A motion suspending Procurement Laws to enable the City to purchase supplies needed due <br />to Hurricane Wilma. <br /> <br />Action: Mayor Ede1cup said that a resolution was needed to permit the City to purchase <br />emergency supplies due to the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma. <br /> <br />Commissioner Iglesias moved and Vice Mayor Thaler and Commissioner Brezin seconded a <br />motion to enable the City to purchase necessary emergency supplies. The motion was <br />approved by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor. [A Resolution ratifying this motion will be <br />placed on the November 17,2005 City Commission meeting agenda.] <br />2 <br />
