<br />Summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting <br /> <br />May 18, 2006 <br /> <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida <br /> <br />Inclusion in the Code; Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> <br />Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and Mayor Ede1cup reported noting that this ordinance <br />was adopted previously as an emergency ordinance and that it is void after a certain time <br />period. <br /> <br />Public Speakers: Henry Kay <br /> <br />Code Enforcement and Licensing Director Robert Solera said that they have received <br />numerous letters from condominiums which indicate that they have complied even before the <br />ordinance was adopted. <br /> <br />City Attorney Ottinot noted a minor amendment on page 26, Section 6, (Compliance) should <br />be deleted. Commissioner Iglesias noted that this ordinance basically pertains to the older <br />buildings. <br /> <br />Commissioner Iglesias moved and Commissioner Thaler seconded a motion to approve the <br />proposed ordinance on first reading, as amended. The motion was approved by a roll <br />call vote of 5-0 in favor. Second reading, public hearing will be held on Thursday, June <br />15,2006, at 7:30 p.m. <br />V ote: Commissioner Goodman yes <br />Commissioner Iglesias yes <br />Commissioner Thaler yes <br />Vice Mayor Brezin yes <br />Mayor Edelcup yes <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Brezin stated that although the City is doing all that they can do to protect those <br />that will be here during a storm, we don't want them to feel that this is a substitute for <br />evacuation ifin fact an evacuation notice is given. She said that we don't want them to feel <br />secure in that we have addressed all of these issues for their comfort to remain where they are <br />because that is not true in the event of a mandatory evacuation. Vice Mayor Brezin said it is <br />very important that when we do have meetings where we will give residents information <br />pertaining to their safety in a hurricane, that they would attend and encourage their neighbors <br />and friends to attend as well. <br /> <br />7C.
