Summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting May 18, 2006 City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida Inclusion in the Code; Providing for an Effective Date. Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and Mayor Ede1cup reported noting that this ordinance was adopted previously as an emergency ordinance and that it is void after a certain time period. Public Speakers: Henry Kay Code Enforcement and Licensing Director Robert Solera said that they have received numerous letters from condominiums which indicate that they have complied even before the ordinance was adopted. City Attorney Ottinot noted a minor amendment on page 26, Section 6, (Compliance) should be deleted. Commissioner Iglesias noted that this ordinance basically pertains to the older buildings. Commissioner Iglesias moved and Commissioner Thaler seconded a motion to approve the proposed ordinance on first reading, as amended. The motion was approved by a roll call vote of 5-0 in favor. Second reading, public hearing will be held on Thursday, June 15,2006, at 7:30 p.m. V ote: Commissioner Goodman yes Commissioner Iglesias yes Commissioner Thaler yes Vice Mayor Brezin yes Mayor Edelcup yes Vice Mayor Brezin stated that although the City is doing all that they can do to protect those that will be here during a storm, we don't want them to feel that this is a substitute for evacuation ifin fact an evacuation notice is given. She said that we don't want them to feel secure in that we have addressed all of these issues for their comfort to remain where they are because that is not true in the event of a mandatory evacuation. Vice Mayor Brezin said it is very important that when we do have meetings where we will give residents information pertaining to their safety in a hurricane, that they would attend and encourage their neighbors and friends to attend as well. 7C. Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and Code Enforcement and Licensing Director Robert Solera reported noting that this ordinance is picking up Chapter 21 of the County Code to fit the specific needs of the City.
