<br />Summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting January 19, 2006 <br /> <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida <br /> <br />4. ORDER OF BUSINESS (Additions/Deletions/Amendments) <br /> <br />4A. Request to Add-On New Item 7G: Ordinance regarding Construction Noise. <br />Action: Mayor Edelcup noted the above change. Commissioner Iglesias moved and <br />Commissioner Thaler seconded a motion to add Item 7G. The motion was approved by a <br />voice vote of 5-0 in favor. <br /> <br />5. SPECIAL PRESENT A TIONS <br /> <br />SA. Annual Report on the State of the City by Mayor Norman S. Edelcup. <br />Action: Mayor Ede1cup noted that he gave the Address a week and half ago at the <br />Concerned Citizens luncheon, and then read the State of the City Address. He noted that the <br />City is very secure and financially strong, and with our financial resources we are able to <br />provide better services to our residents and complete all of the scheduled Capital <br />Improvement Programs. <br /> <br />Mayor Edelcup noted major accomplishments and events that occurred over the year, <br />including moving into the new Government Center which also houses the Miami-Dade <br />County Library and the United States Post Office; improved lifeguard services; new bus <br />routes; lower taxes; and that new holiday decorations were installed on light poles. He noted <br />that Hans Ottinot was appointed City Attorney, and that John Szerlag was appointed our new <br />City Manager who will begin in early March, and he introduced Mr. Szerlag. He also noted <br />that the Commission approved a grant of $8.5 Million to the Miami-Dade County School <br />Board for the purchase of land in Sunny Isles Beach to build a "K" through "8" school. He <br />also noted the City's 20-year Time Capsule and "History Hall" which depicts the 85-year <br />history of Sunny Isles Beach by historian Richard C. Schulman. Mayor Edelcup noted the <br />opening of "Town Center Park", and that after its opening Hurricane Wilma arrived, and he <br />commended Interim City Manager Police Chief Maas and our Police Department for <br />maintaining order and stability within our City. He stated that he and Vice Mayor Roslyn <br />Brezin ran unopposed, and that Commissioner Goodman was reelected. He also noted that <br />the City entered into a Sister City Agreement with Netanya, Israel. <br /> <br />Mayor Edelcup said by working together, we will continue to raise the quality oflife for the <br />residents in our community, and to make our City known throughout the world as the <br />"American Riviera". <br /> <br />5B. A Proclamation to be Presented to Alberto and Isolina Jorge Upon Their 75th Wedding <br />Anniversary. <br />Action: Mayor Edelcup said that this proclamation is in recognition of Commissioner <br />Iglesias' Grandparents 75th Wedding Anniversary. Commissioner Iglesias, on behalf of the <br />City Commission, presented his Grandfather a Proclamation proclaiming Tuesday, January <br />10,2006 as "Alberto and Isolina Jorge Day in the City of Sunny Isles Beach". Commissioner <br />Iglesias said that his Grandmother was not feeling well and unable to be here tonight. He <br />noted that when the City was going to become incorporated, his Grandmother at the age of <br />86, became an American citizen so that she could vote for the incorporation of the City. <br /> <br />2 <br />
