Preview

Page 1 of2

City of Sunny Isles Beach
18070 Collins Avenue
Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160

(305) 947-0606 City Hall
(305) 949-3113 Fax

MEMORANDUM

TO:

The Honorable Mayor and City Commission

FROM:

Alan 1. Cohen, City Manager

DATE:

12/15/2011

RE:

Approval of a Lobbyist Contract with Ronald L. Book, Esquire

RECOMMENDATION:

Approve the contract

REASONS:

The City has decided to retain the services of Mr. Book as its primary state lobbyist. The
contract establishes the retainer fee and working relationship between Mr. Book and the
City.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Given the lack of state and federal funding opportunities for the City to take advantage
of, the City decided that it was not cost effective to continue paying for full-time
lobbying services. On the other hand, the City recognizes that issues might arise in the
legislature that would impact the City and the City would want to ensure its position is
appropriately represented.

The contract with Mr. Book is for retaining him and providing minimal services to the
City. If in the future the City would like Mr. Book to work on a more substantive project,
the City would negotiate with Mr. Book an additional fee for those services.

FUNDING SOURCE:

Funding is available in account number 10-512-5317.

ATTACHMENTS:

.

http://sibagenda.sibfl.net/agenda/Preview .aspx?I temID=664&MeetingID=0&MeetingDate... 12/9/2011
