<br />The Miami-Dade Local Mitigation Strategy <br />June2011 <br /> <br />The approved partieipatingjurisdielions arc hereby eligible applicants through thc Stale for the following <br />mitigation grant programs administercd by Ihe Federal Emergency Managemenl Agency (FEMA)' <br /> <br />I-Iazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) <br />Pre-Disaste,' Mitigation (PDM) <br />Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) <br />Flood Mitigalion Assistance (FMA) <br /> <br />We commend the participants in the Miami-Dade County plan for the development of a solid, workable <br />plan that will guide ha7.ln'd mitigation activities over the coming years. Please note that all requests for <br />funding will be evaluated individually neeording to the specific eligibililY and ocher requirements of the <br />parlieulnr progrnmundel' whieh the application is submilted. <br /> <br />For exmnple, a specific mitigation netivity or project idcnCified in the plnn may not lIIeet the eligibility <br />requirements for FEMA funding, and even eligible mitigationlletivities arc not automntieally approved <br />for FEMA funding under any of the aforementioned programs. In addition, please be aWare that ifany of <br />the appl'Ovcd jurisdictions participating in this plan arC placed on probation or arC suspcndcd from the <br />National Flood Insurance Program, thcy may bc ineligible tor certain types of federal funding. <br /> <br />We strongly encourage each Community to perform an annual review and assessment of the effectiveness <br />of their hazard mitigation plan; however, a formal plan update is required at least every five (5) years. <br />We also eneomage each Community to conduct a plan update process withitl one (l) year of being <br />included within a Presidential Disaster Declaration or of the adoption of major modifications to their local <br />Comprehensive Land Use Plan or other plans that alleet hazard mitigalion or land use and development. <br />When thc plan is amended or revised, itll\ust be resubmilled through the State as a "plan update" and is <br />subject 10 a fOllllal review and approval process by our office. If Ihe plan is not updated prior to the <br />required five (5) year update, please ensure that the draI\ update is submitted alleast six (6) months prior <br />(0 expiralion oflhis plan. <br /> <br />The Slate and Ihe pRl'licipal1ls in the Miami-Dade County plan should be commended for their close <br />coordination and communications with our office in the review and subscquent approval of the plan.
