Cohen, City Manager

3/15/2012

Change in Personnel Policy re: Tuition Reimbursement

1

RECOMMENDATION:

Approve the resolution amending the personnel policy regarding tuition reimbursement

REASONS:

The City has been supportive of its employees pursuing training and other educational
opportunities designed to maintain or increase knowledge, skills, and/or abilities. As our
employees move up the academic ladder, the costs of seeking advanced degrees also
greatly increases.

In recognition of the fact that our more senior level employees are the ones typically
seeking these advanced degrees, we are proposing amending the tuition reimbursement
policy to allow for a higher initial reimbursement level of $3,000 for these employees,
which is currently the maximum allowed for all employees. So as not to disciminate
against other non-senior employees, any employee who is seeking a Master's degree or
higher would also be eligible for the higher tuition reimbursement level.

.

ATTACHMENTS:

Resolution

.

Educational Reimbursement Program

Date

J():T
3-\S-'~J

Agenda Item

http://sibagenda.sibfl.net/ agenda/Preview.aspx?I temID=73 8&MeetingII
