Cohen, City Manager

DATE:

3/15/2012

RE:

FY 2011/2012 Proposed Budget Amendment-General Fund

+-

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff is recommending City Commission approve the attached resolution for the General
Fund FY 201112012 budget amendment to fund a cost of living increase, to set aside
funds for the anticipated increase in the PBA step program, to fund the Sister City
program and to ensure budgetary compliance.

REASONS:

As with all cities across the United States, Sunny Isles Beach was impacted by the
economic downturn. As a result, the City tightened its belt and reduced costs wherever
possible. One consequence of this is that city employees have not received a COLA
increase for several years.

The national economy is slowly recovering and our City is on the forefront of new
development activity. This has improved our budget situation and puts us in a position to
grant a 3% COLA increase to our employees.

ATTACHMENTS:

.

Resolution

.

Budget Amendment-General Fund

Agenda Item ~k
)
Date ~-\ '5- ,~

http://sibagenda.sibfl.net/ agenda/Preview .aspx?I temID=73 5 &MeetingL
