<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2012- I~B?' <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING <br />THE CHIEF OF POLICE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE <br />COMPREHENSIVE CRIME CONTROL ACT OF 1984 TO <br />EXPEND UP TO SEVEN HUNDRED SEVENTY-FOUR <br />THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED EIGHTY-SIX DOLLARS <br />($774,986.00) FROM THE FEDERAL FORFEITURE (DOJ) <br />FUNDS FOR THE ADDITION OF SIX (6) NEW, NON <br />BUDGETED POLICE OFFICER POSITIONS, PURCHASE OF <br />SIX (6) ADDITIONAL POLICE VEHICLES, START-UP <br />COSTS FOR UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT FOR NEW <br />POSITIONS AND MISCELLANEOUS INVESTIGATIVE <br />ELECTRONICS AND TACTICAL EQUIPMENT; PROVIDING <br />FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, the City <br />and its Police Department are authorized to expend forfeiture funds from the established Department <br />of Justice (DOJ) federal forfeiture account, for the approved programs or purchases intended to <br />enhance law enforcement purposes; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, upon the <br />request of the Chief of Police to the governing body ofa municipality, federally forfeited funds may <br />be expended if accompanied by written certification by the Chief of Police that the request complies <br />with the provisions of the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has submitted a request for the expenditure of up to Seven <br />Hundred Seventy-Four Thousand Nine Hundred Eighty-Six Dollars ($774,986.00) in federally <br />forfeited funds in compliance with the aforementioned. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section I. Expenditure of Partial Federallv Forfeited Monies. Based on the attached certification, <br />the ChiefofPolice is hereby authorized to spend up to Seven Hundred Seventy-Four Thousand Nine <br />Hundred Eighty-Six Dollars ($774,986.00) from the established Department of Justice (DOJ) federal <br />forfeitures account for the addition of six (6) new, non budgeted police officer positions, purchase of <br />six (6) additional police vehicles, start-up costs for uniforms and equipment for new positions and <br />miscellaneous investigative electronics and tactical equipment. <br /> <br />Section 2. Effective Date.
