Concept One

Edge + Angle

The Edge + Angle concept
derives its design form from
clean contemporary patterns
and simple geometric lines
expressed across the site.
The circulation patterns create
angular planes of open green
space that are manipulated
topographically to create visual
interest and play. The primary
movement across the site is at
the water's edge, utilizing the
sea wall as a promenade. Two
horizontal projections through
the site bring visitors across
panels of flat, multi-use lawn
areas to overlook the water's
edge. Adjacent and opposite of
the main projections out to the
water, we invite the Intracoastal
water to project in and engage
the park. By re-introducing a
mangrove ecology, the park
will provide a unique natural
experience against the existing
dense urban fabric.

Screening along the park's
west edge is provided through
a series of linear, angular
benches with canopy-like backs
that act as the screen wall.
The challenge of screening the
park becomes an opportunity
for architectural, seating, and
planting interventions along the
park edge.

(

(
(

(

(

Finally, the south end of the
park integrates a play area into
the surrounding landscape.
Families have the opportunity
to adventure and explore the
mangroves, play on the lawn,
or use the play facilities that are
designed to mimic the edge and
angle design pattern.

(
(

(

(

(
"

(
i

(

94

City of Sunny Isles Beach I Design & Permitting Services of the Intracoastal Parks RFQ No, 12-04-04

Ao:""COM
