HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD RESOLUTION NO. 2011 - 1 � <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />BOARD OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, <br />APPROVING THE APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATION OF <br />APPROPRIATENESS TO DEMOLISH AND RECONSTRUCT <br />THE SUNNY ISLES BEACH PIER, ATTACHED HERETO AS <br />EXHIBIT "A "; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, a primary function of the Historic Preservation Board of the City of Sunny <br />Isles Beach (the "Board ") is to designate, preserve, protect and maintain historic buildings in the <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City "); and <br />WHEREAS, the property known as the Sunny Isles Beach Pier (a/k/a Newport Fishing <br />Pier), located at 16701 Collins Avenue, was originally built in 1936 and quickly became a <br />popular destination for fishing enthusiasts and sightseers from around the world; and <br />WHEREAS, the Sunny Isles Beach Pier was designated by the Miami -Dade County <br />Historic Preservation Board as a historic site on January 21, 1982, and later re- designated as a <br />historic site by the City of Sunny Isles Beach Historic Preservation Board on June 6, 2005; and <br />WHEREAS, the Sunny Isles Beach Pier sustained major structural damage during <br />Hurricane Wilma in 2005, and has since been closed to the public due to unsafe conditions; and <br />WHEREAS, the City desires to demolish and reconstruct the existing Sunny Isles Beach <br />Pier structure and restaurant and replace it with a new pier and restaurant within the same <br />footprint, as set forth in the Application for Certification of Appropriateness attached hereto as <br />Exhibit "A "; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach Historic Preservation Board is required to <br />render decisions on applications for certificates of appropriateness seeking the demolition or <br />reconstruction of a designated historic landmark within the City. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />BOARD OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Incorporation of Recitals. The foregoing recital paragraphs are hereby ratified <br />and confirmed as being true and the same are hereby made part of this Resolution. <br />Section 2. Approval of Application for Certification of Appropriateness. The City's Historic <br />Preservation Board finds that the Application for Certification of Appropriateness, attached <br />hereto as Exhibit "A ", meets the criteria for approval as a Special Certification of <br />Appropriateness under Chapter 171 of the City Code. The City's Historic Preservation Board <br />hereby approves the proposed demolition and reconstruction of the Sunny Isles Beach Pier with <br />no special conditions. <br />Resolution No. 2011 - Sunny Isles Beach Pier Page l of 2 <br />
