V Society
Dear Relay For Life Supporter,
Did you know that two- thirds of all cancer is preventable... and yet, 1.4 million Americans are diagnosed with cancer
each year? The American Cancer Society is dedicated to educating our community about early detection and
prevention of cancer.
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's signature activity that raises funds to support patient services,
research, education, and advocacy. With the help of dedicated volunteers, donors and supporters, we have been able
to strengthen our patient services by offering programs like Road to Recovery, where we drive patients to their
treatments. We continue to fund more research than ANY OTHER organization, second only to the US government,
funding 44 Nobel Prize winners and thousands of researchers who are saving lives with their daily discoveries. The
American Cancer Society continues to educate the community, both young and old, with early detection and
prevention programming and our advocacy efforts are outstanding as we advocate for laws that will assure our
government continues its research and work on towards a cure!
Relay For Life is a true community event where people of all ages and from all walks of life come together to
celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost to the disease, and fight back against
cancer. Food, fun and camaraderie are all part of the Relay For Life experience, which is an outdoor, overnight event
designed to bring communities together for a common cause — the fight against cancer.
Of the 18 hours of relay, 9 select hours are available for sponsorship by individuals or businesses (aka, sponsor/team
captains). Each sponsor /team captain will assemble a team of 10 -15 members who fundraise prior to the event as
well as participate in the day of event itself. The cost of sponsoring one hour will be $2000; during that sponsored
hour, the sponsor /team captain can choose the theme for the hour, provide speakers /entertainment/highlights of their
business /organization /family while focusing on the mission of cancer awareness and funding research for a cure. (See
sponsorship packet for specifics of the sponsorship benefits).
While there are only 9 sponsorship hours available, additional teams may come on board for $100 registration fee,
but without sponsorship, publicity or marketing. All team member participants are encouraged to raise at least an
additional $100 per person.
Your business, organization or family can also join the fight against cancer by being a traditional corporate sponsor
(levels include Diamond, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Luminaria, Community, and Track Marker, and of course, by attending
the event.
