RESOLUTION NO. 2017- 21017 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br /> SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE <br /> EXPANSION OF THE NEW STARTS TRANSIT PROGRAM TO <br /> FACILITATE FUNDING FOR THE STRATEGIC MIAMI AREAS <br /> RAPID TRANSIT PLAN; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER <br /> TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS <br /> RESOLUTION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT <br /> A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE BOARD AND <br /> MEMBERS OF THE MIAMI-DADE LEAGUE OF CITIES; <br /> PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is suffering from severe traffic congestion involving <br /> an increasing amount of its roadways and for an increasing amount of time; and <br /> WHEREAS, this congestion has a detrimental effect on the quality of life for residents of <br /> Miami-Dade County, the prosperity of our local business community, and the economic climate <br /> of the area as a whole; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach advocates sound policy proposals that will <br /> benefit the community and Miami-Dade County, as whole; and <br /> WHEREAS, alleviating the severe congestion negatively impacting our community, will <br /> provide better quality of life for residents, provide better access to local businesses, and benefit <br /> the local cities; and <br /> WHEREAS, the SMART Plan intends to advance six (6) of the rapid transit corridors, <br /> which primarily features six (6) rapid transit corridors that include both bus rapid transit and <br /> fixed-guideway transit projects, that once completed, will connect all parts of the County to a <br /> holistic public transit system; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City now wishes to express their support of the Expansion of the New <br /> Starts Transit Program to Facilitate Funding for the Strategic Miami Areas Rapid Transit Plan. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br /> CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Support of Expanding the New Starts Transit Program. The City Commission <br /> hereby supports the Expansion of the New Starts Transit Program to Facilitate Funding for the <br /> Strategic Miami Areas Rapid Transit Plan. <br /> Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all <br /> • things necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution. <br /> Section 3. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Commission hereby directs the City Clerk. <br /> to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Board and Members of the Miami-Dade League of <br /> Cities. <br /> R2017-PFM Financial Adv.for Financial Advisory Services 1 <br />
