Grandinetti, Police Captain <br /> DATE: October 18, 2012 <br /> RE: Approval to Expend Partial Forfeiture (DOJ) Funds for the Purchase of <br /> Miscellaneous Technology / Electronic Equipment for Law Enforcement/ <br /> Investigative Purposes (ie: Magtex Card Readers for Police Vehicles, Document <br /> Scanners, Computers/Monitors, etc.) to be Used by Our Detached Detective and <br /> His DEA, HIDTA Group, in an Amount Not to Exceed S25,000.00 <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that City Commission approve the expenditure of partial Federal (DOJ) <br /> Forfeiture Funds, previously awarded to the Police Department as the results of investigative <br /> participation in forfeiture and seizure cases. These funds are permissible by law to be spent for <br /> the purchases of police equipment and other law enforcement activities. It is requested that we <br /> be permitted to utilize up to $25,000.00 of said funds on deposit for such purpose. <br /> REASONS: <br /> The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department actively participates in a DEA / HIDTA (High <br /> Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Initiative Group that conducts numerous ongoing proactive <br /> investigations and has a need for the attached listed equipment. <br /> ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br /> One of the benefits of participating in and providing personnel into high intensity narcotics <br /> investigations is the sharing of confiscated proceeds for the enhancement of law enforcement. <br /> All of the attached listed items are authorized expenditures and are designed towards charitable <br /> and crime prevention programs, enhancement of law enforcement equipment as well as legal <br /> costs associated with the asset forfeiture process. <br /> FUNDING SOURCE: <br /> DOJ Forfeiture Account 60-521-5496 'R p <br /> Agenda*Item - 1 fe:■, <br /> Date 10- ( q,— <br />
