REASONS The City Commission has made a commitment to support charitable organizations which provide services to the residents of the City of Sunny Isles Beach. Section C-7.6 of the City Charter, as well as Section 172-5 of the City Code, require the affirmative votes of at least four (4) members of the City Commission at a public meeting to approve charitable contributions to any person or entity. During the aftermath of natural disasters like Hurricane Irma, the City Manager must have flexibility to financially assist local charities which are generally providing shelter, food and other assistance to seniors and others. The City Commission wishes to amend Section 172-5 of the City Code to authorize the City Manager to make charitable contributions up to $5,000.00 to local non-profit organizations. The City Commission also wishes to amend Section 172-5 of the City Code to authorize the City Manager to make a memorial contribution of up to $500.00 in the event of death of an employee or City Official.
