Grandinetti, Police Captain <br /> DATE: 10/19/2017 <br /> Approval to Expend Partial Forfeiture(DOJ) Funds for <br /> the purchase of two laptop computers, a replacement <br /> navigation system for our marine patrol boat and <br /> RE: miscellaneous disaster preparedness equipment in an <br /> amount not to exceed$13,700.00 <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Commission approve the expenditure <br /> of partial Federal (DOJ) Forfeiture Funds previously awarded to the <br /> Police Department as the results of investigative participation in <br /> forfeiture and seizure cases in an amount not to exceed $13,700.00 <br /> REASONS: <br /> These funds are permissible by law to be spent for the purchases of <br /> police equipment and other law enforcement activities. <br /> The attached list of equipment will enhance our police operations and <br /> it is requested that we be permitted to utilize up to$ 13,700.00 of said <br /> funds on deposit for such purpose. <br /> ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br /> The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department actively participates in DEA <br /> and HIDTA(High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Initiative Groups that <br /> conduct numerous ongoing proactive investigations and now has a <br /> need for the attached listed law enforcement equipment. <br /> One of the benefits of participating in and providing personnel into <br /> high intensity narcotics investigations is the sharing of confiscated <br /> proceeds for the enhancement of law enforcement. <br /> FUNDING SOURCE: <br /> Department of Justice, Forfeiture Account#600-3-5210-xxxxxx-xxxxx <br /> https://sunnyisles.novusagenda.com/AgendaWeb/CoverSheet.aspx?ItemID=2217 1/2 <br />
