Sanders, Director of Public Works <br /> DATE: 11/15/2012 <br /> RE: Approval of the Purchase of a New City Shuttle Bus and the Upgrade <br /> of Two Shuttle Buses Provided to the City through the ARRA <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution approving the <br /> purchase of a new shuttle bus and upgrades to two additional buses from National Bus <br /> Sales and Leasing, Incorporated in a total amount not to exceed One Hundred Eleven <br /> Thousand Dollars ($111,000.00) <br /> REASONS: <br /> The City provides free community shuttle service to residents and visitors seven days per <br /> week with up to four (4) buses operating simultaneously. At present, the city owns five <br /> (5) shuttle buses. <br /> Staff recommends the purchase of a new shuttle bus, designed to our specifications to <br /> replace the City's existing shuttle bus #04-77. Shuttle bus #04-77 is 8 years old and is <br /> frequently in the shop for repairs, costing the City thousands in repairs annually. This <br /> will ensure reliable service to our residents. The proposed bus will seat twenty (20) <br /> passengers, plus two (2) wheelchair stations for our wheelchair passengers, and equipped <br /> with a wheelchair lift to meet ADA regulations as well as two (2) foldaway seats for a <br /> potential total capacity of 24 passengers.
