RESOLUTION NO. 2018-2-1i <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br /> SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE UNITED <br /> STATES CONGRESS TO PASS THE ISRAEL ANTI-BOYCOTT <br /> ACT TO COMBAT THE BOYCOTT, DIVESTMENT, AND <br /> SANCTION MOVEMENT AGAINST ISRAEL; DIRECTING THE <br /> CITY CLERK TO SEND THIS RESOLUTION TO UNITED STATES <br /> SENATORS FOR THE STATE OF FLORIDA, CONGRESSIONAL <br /> HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES <br /> BEACH, AND ISRAELI CONSULATE GENERAL IN MIAMI; <br /> PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, on March 24, 2016, the United Nations Human Rights Council proposed <br /> by resolution a measure which urged countries to pressure companies from engaging in new <br /> contracts, or break existing contacts with Israel; and <br /> WHEREAS, on March 23, 2017, Congress introduced Senate Bill 720, the Israel Anti- <br /> Boycott Act, which opposes such divestment, amends the Export Administration Act of 1979 <br /> which prohibits boycotts either fostered or imposed against countries friendly to the United <br /> States, and encourages full implementation of the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act <br /> of 2014; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Israel is long-time ally of the United States; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") wishes to express support for the <br /> United States Congress to pass the Israel Anti- Boycott Act, and urge our Senators and other <br /> Congressional Representatives to support this legislation that will combat boycotting, <br /> divestment, and sanctions against Israel; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach, through the Sister Cities International <br /> program, has a collaborative relationship with our sister city Netanya, Israel; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Commission wishes to adopt this Resolution urging the United States <br /> Congress to act by passing the Israel Anti-Boycott Act that will declare U.S. opposition to the <br /> imposition of boycotts and restrictive practices against Israel. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br /> CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Recitals. The foregoing Whereas paragraphs are hereby ratified and <br /> confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution. <br /> Section 2. Urging Congress to Pass the Israel Anti- Boycott Act. The City <br /> Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach urges the United States Congress to pass the Israel <br /> Anti-Boycott Act. <br />
