A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida,Urging the <br /> Florida Legislature to Amend the Florida Clean Indoor Air Act to Expressly Allow Local <br /> Regulation of Smoking and the Possession of Tobacco Products in Municipal and County <br /> Parks and Recreation Areas;Directing the City Clerk to Transmit a Copy of this Resolution <br /> to Members of the Florida Legislature; Authorizing the City Manager to Do All Things <br /> Necessary to Effectuate this Resolution; Providing for an Effective Date. <br /> Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and Commissioner Gatto reported noting that this <br /> Resolution is urging the Florida Legislature to amend the Florida Clean Indoor Air Act to <br /> allow municipalities to make their own regulations of tobacco use in parks and recreation <br /> areas. It is a small step but an important one to combat the dangers of secondhand smoke. <br /> Public Speakers: None <br /> Commissioner Levin moved and Vice Mayor Aelion seconded a motion to approve the <br /> resolution. Resolution No. 2012-2012 was adopted by a voice vote of 4-0-1 <br /> [Commissioner Scholl absent] in favor. <br /> 11. MOTIONS <br /> None <br /> 12. DISCUSSION ITEMS <br /> None <br /> 13. CITIZENS' FORUM: REQUESTS, PETITIONS & OTHER COMMUNICATIONS <br /> 13A. Noise at Skate Park: Rachel Beyda said it has been two years and she doesn't see any sign <br /> that anything is being done about this issue. She said she had 25 signatures on the board of <br /> her Building (Winston Towers) and somebody ripped it off, she wanted to bring it here <br /> tonight. <br /> Public Speakers: Rachel Beyda; Mr. Snyder <br /> Mayor Edelcup said that we have had some studies and are ruling out certain attempts to be <br /> able to mitigate it,and most recently we have hired a new City Manager who is now trying to <br /> formulate some ideas for a solution that may modify or reduce the sound at the Skate Park. <br /> City Manager Russo said he has just started to move in that direction,and he will be working <br /> with Commissioner Gatto and our staff that deals with running that Skate Park. One of the <br /> first things he will do besides the ideas that they will be looking into, is meeting with the <br /> people who did the sound study. He noted that he has been to Ms.Beyda's apartment to hear <br /> the noise from the Skate Park. <br /> 12 <br />
