LASARD was developed for the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) to help facilitate the
identification and management of nearshore, offshore and riverine sediment resources. In LASARD, the geoscientific
and related data acquired for ecosystem restoration are archived, populated, and maintained on a GIS platform.
Since 2013, Dr. Forrest has managed the project, overseeing database development, development of standards and
specifications, data compilation, data formatting, archiving and QA/QC.
Dr. Forrest coordinated stakeholder involvement through a series of one‐on‐one meetings with City Managers, City
and County Engineers, and emergency management staff to discuss critical infrastructure needs and concerns.
Potential projects were then identified and resiliency and infrastructure assessments were conducted. The project
resulted in a project portfolio and report, containing prioritized projects according to risk. As data manager, Dr.
Forrest coordinated the development of an online web interface to disseminate the data compiled over the course
of the project. She was also heavily involved in data compilation and evaluation, quality control and development of
final deliverables. She also assisted the project manager with the development of risk assessment and ranking
methods.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION (Brief scope, size, cost, etc.) AND SPECIFIC ROLE Check if project performed with current firm
Project Manager for assessing sediment needs for southwest Florida including Pinellas, Manatee, Sarasota,
Charlotte, Lee and Collier Counties. Contingencies that increase needed volumes (i.e. borrow area waste, dredging
losses, future project performance) are incorporated into the needs determination. Compile existing offshore
sediment sources. Evaluate bathymetric, seismic and geotechnical data to identify offshore sand sources that meet
predetermined sediment characteristics for each county project. Sediment sources are assigned categories based on
data confidence and volumes for each source are calculated based on borrow area designs and bathymetric data
with GIS.
