Do not shim with multiple boards or blocks. ❑ For a straight or extension ladder set the base out one foot for every four feet of height. ❑ The ladder should be tall enough that you do not have to stand on the top three rungs. ❑ Long or light metal ladders should be tied off or otherwise secured at the top. ❑ Two hands should be used when climbing a ladder. ❑ If electrical lines are present, use only a nonconductive ladder.
