4. Termination - if an employee is to be terminated, specific and documented communication <br />between the supervisor and the employee must occur. <br />Supervisors will be subject to disciplinary action for the following reasons: <br />■ Repeated safety rule violation by their department employees. <br />■ Failure to provide adequate training prior to job assignment. <br />■ Failure to report accidents and provide medical attention to employees injured at work. <br />■ Failure to control unsafe conditions or work practices. <br />■ Failure to maintain good housekeeping standards and cleanliness in their departments. <br />Supervisors who fail to maintain high standards of safety within their departments will be <br />demoted or terminated after three documented warnings have been levied during any calendar <br />year. <br />Specific Operational Procedures & Safety Guidelines <br />Cosmetic appearance of trucks and equipment is in the strictest sense a maintenance function that <br />is overlooked all too often. However, it is something that must be followed on a continuing basis <br />to keep it in check. <br />Stump Grinder <br />❑ Check all moving parts and hoses before operations <br />❑ Stand clear of stump when grinding <br />❑ Keep restraining curtain in place, turn motor off and be sure grinding wheel is prevented from <br />turning when servicing or adjusting <br />❑ Do not move from operating position until grinding wheel has stopped turning <br />❑ Observe all operating procedures as posted <br />❑ When transporting, secure with load binders at all times <br />❑ PPE (ear protection, mask and hardhat) must be worn <br />Truck <br />❑ Perform pre -trip inspection before operations and <br />post -trip inspection after operations <br />❑ Report any problems immediately to your <br />supervisors <br />❑ Maintain maintenance log at all times <br />❑ PPE as directed (head protection, hands, eye <br />protection) must be worn <br />❑ Check chainsaw for fuel and oil before using and <br />removing from truck <br />❑ Chock wheels when parking and set brake <br />Chipper <br />❑ Make sure all safety devices are functional before <br />operating <br />❑ Observe lockout procedures when changing knives <br />14 <br />Techniques for fewer problems <br />with the chipper <br />❑ <br />Always let chipper warm up for <br />3 minutes. <br />❑ <br />Have up to high rpm before <br />feeding heavy sticks. <br />❑ <br />If unit lugs, pull remaining <br />branches back and redo at higher <br />rpm. <br />❑ <br />Push material in with another <br />stick. <br />❑ <br />Ease in clutch at low rpm <br />❑ <br />Pull chipper with tongue <br />extended to maximum length. <br />❑ <br />Conditions may vary but keep <br />chipper as level as possible when <br />operating. <br />❑ <br />Always have a second <br />crewmember directing when <br />backing the chipper. <br />❑ <br />Keep knives in matched sets for <br />best balance. <br />
