Grandinetti, Police Captain <br /> DATE: 5/17/2018 <br /> RE: Authorization to Expend Partial Forfeiture (DOJ)Funds <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> • It is recommended that the City Commission approve the expenditure <br /> of partial Federal (DOJ) Forfeiture Funds previously awarded to the <br /> Police Department as the results of investigative participation in <br /> forfeiture and seizure cases in an amount not to exceed $125,631.10 <br /> REASONS: <br /> The Forfeiture Funds will be used to purchase two PALO ALTO PA- <br /> 3220 Network Firewalls, two Catalyst 4500-x 16 Port 10G IP Switches, <br /> new office furniture for the Police Department, the replacement of the <br /> inflatable boat bumpers on the police boat, and a new laptop computer <br /> for our detached detective, in an amount not to exceed $125,631.10. <br /> ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br /> These funds are permissible by law to be spent for the purchases of <br /> police equipment and other law enforcement activities. The attached <br /> list of equipment will enhance our police operations and it is requested <br /> that we be permitted to utilize up to $125,631.10 of said funds on <br /> deposit for such purpose. <br /> The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department actively participates in DEA <br /> and HIDTA(High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Initiative Groups that <br /> conduct numerous ongoing proactive investigations and now has a <br /> need for the attached listed law enforcement equipment. <br /> One of the benefits of participating in and providing personnel into <br /> high intensity narcotics investigations is the sharing of confiscated <br /> proceeds for the enhancement of law enforcement. <br /> FUNDING SOURCE: <br /> Department of Justice Forfeiture Account#600-1-5210-xxxxxxx <br /> ATTACHMENTS: <br /> Description <br /> Resolution <br /> Chief's Certification 5-17-18 <br /> Item Number: 10.C. <br /> https://sunnyisles.novusagenda.com/agendapublic//Coversheet.aspx?ItemID=23508,MeetinglD=137 1/1 <br />
