RESOLUTION NO.2025 - S bO l <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR FLORIDA SENATE BILL 2-C, RELATING TO <br />IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT <br />COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL <br />THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the Florida State Senators Joe Gruters and Randy Fine introduced Senate Bill <br />2-C ("SB 2-C"), which strengthens immigration enforcement through measures such as <br />prohibiting the issuance of driver's licenses or identification cards to unauthorized aliens, <br />enforcing penalties for unqualified voting by non -citizens, and creating a State Board of <br />Immigration Enforcement; and <br />WHEREAS, SB 2-C enhances public safety by expanding pretrial detention criteria for <br />unauthorized aliens charged with forcible felonies and increasing penalties for unauthorized <br />aliens committing certain crimes; and <br />WHEREAS, the bill establishes the Local Law Enforcement Immigration Grant Program to <br />provide funding to local law enforcement agencies assisting in federal immigration law <br />enforcement; and <br />WHEREAS, SB 2-C was enacted by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor <br />Ron DeSantis on February 13, 2025; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") supports initiatives that strengthen <br />the enforcement of federal and state immigration laws to ensure community security and <br />compliance with legal residency requirements; and <br />WHEREAS, SB 2-C aligns with the City's commitment to uphold the rule of law and <br />collaborate with state and federal authorities in matters of immigration enforcement; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interest of its residents to <br />support SB 2-C. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Express Support of Senate Bill 2-C. The City Commission hereby expresses its <br />support of Senate Bill 2-C. <br />Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies <br />of this Resolution to the Florida League of Cities, the President of the Florida Senate, the Speaker <br />of Florida House of Representatives, the Governor of the State of Florida, Florida Senator Joe <br />Gruters, and Florida Senator Randy Fine. <br />@BCL@280C14DA.docx Page 1 of 2 232 <br />
