CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Edelcup at 7:40 p.m., (Commission Workshop was <br />held from 6:30 p.m. - 7:35 p.m.) with the following officials present: <br />Mayor Norman S. Edelcup <br />Vice Mayor Lewis J. Thaler <br />Commissioner Roslyn Brezin <br />Commissioner Gerry Goodman <br />Commissioner George "Bud" Scholl <br /> <br />City Manager A. John Szerlag <br />City Attorney Hans Ottinot <br />City Clerk Jane A. Hines, CMC <br />Assistant City Manager/Services Jorge Vera <br />Assistant City Attorney Fernando Amuchastegui <br /> <br />Mayor Edelcup noted the traffic jams tonight on Collins A venue due to the bus/pedestrian <br />accident, which only pinpoints the fact that we need to move forward with an emergency route <br />that has the ability to handle two-way traffic. Too many times in the last couple of years we <br />have seen the City almost shut down in gridlock, and he suggested to City Manager Szerlag <br />that, given the fact that we have had so many occurrences like this, before we move too far <br />along on the bridge over the canal that we look to see that maybe we need to have a little more <br />foresight and plan for events which has occurred tonight. <br /> <br />2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE / INVOCATION <br />Action: Richard C. Schulman, City Historian, led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, and <br />gave an invocation. Mr. Schulman also asked for a moment of silent prayer in memory of <br />Henry Kay, who recently passed away, and was the past president of the Sunny Isles Beach <br />Coalition, and a dedicated citizen and activist. <br /> <br />Mayor Edelcup gave opening remarks of decorum. Vice Mayor Thaler thanked everyone for <br />their condolences upon the passing of his father last month. <br /> <br />3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />3A. Regular City Commission Meeting - February 21, 2008. <br />Action: Commissioner Goodman moved and Commissioner Brezin seconded a motion to <br />approve the above-mentioned Summary Minutes. The motion was approved by a voice <br />vote of 5-0 in favor. <br />
