ORDINANCE NO. 2017- SOBS <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br /> CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING <br /> SECTION 172-5 OF THE CITY CODE ENTITLED <br /> "CHARITABLE DONATIONS" TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY <br /> MANAGER TO MAKE CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS UP TO <br /> $5,000.00 TO LOCAL NON-PROFIT ORIGANIZATIONS; <br /> AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO MAKE A <br /> MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTION OF UP TO $500.00 IN THE <br /> EVENT OF DEATH OF A CITY EMPLOYEE OR CITY <br /> OFFICIAL; PROVIDING FOR REPEALER; PROVIDING FOR <br /> SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR INCLUSION IN THE CITY <br /> CODE; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, the City Commission has made a commitment to support charitable <br /> organizations which provide services to the residents of the City of Sunny Isles Beach; and <br /> WHEREAS, Section C-7.6 of the City Charter, as well as Section 172-5 of the City <br /> Code, require the affirmative votes of at least four (4) members of the City Commission at a <br /> public meeting to approve charitable contributions to any person or entity; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to amend Section 172-5 of the City Code to <br /> authorize the City Manager to make charitable contributions up to $5,000.00 to local non-profit <br /> organizations; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to also amend Section 172-5 of the City Code <br /> to authorize the City Manager to make a memorial contribution of up to $500.00 in the event of <br /> death of an employee or City Official. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISISON OF THE <br /> CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Incorporation of Recitals. The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and <br /> confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Ordinance upon <br /> adoption hereof. <br /> Section 2. Amendment. Section 172-5 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Sunny Isles <br /> Beach is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> § 172-5 Charitable Donations <br /> A. <br /> Financial Donations. Cash donations to charitable organizations must be <br /> approved by the affirmative votes of at least four members of the City <br /> Commission at a public meeting.
