RESOLUTION NO. 2013 - 2.06 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br /> SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE RESULTS OF <br /> THE SPECIAL ELECTION HELD ON TUESDAY, JUNE 4, 2013, ON <br /> PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE CITY CHARTER; DISCHARGING <br /> THE CANVASSING BOARD; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, the City of Sunny Isles Beach held a Special <br /> Election on proposed Amendments to the City Charter; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to accept the results of the Special Election held <br /> on June 4, 2013. <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES <br /> BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Accept Results of Special Election. The City Commission of the City of Sunny <br /> Isles Beach hereby accepts the results of the Special Election held on June 4, 2013, as follows: <br /> 1. Requiring proof of residency for candidates for Commissioner or Mayor at <br /> time of qualifying: The City Charter does not contain specific provisions <br /> requiring proof of residency for candidates for Commissioner or Mayor at the <br /> time of qualification. It is hereby proposed that candidates submit specific <br /> proof of residency at the time of qualifying by producing a valid voter's <br /> registration card and other documents which establishes compliance with <br /> residency requirements for the office of Commissioner or Mayor. This <br /> amendment requires the City Commission to establish specific residency <br /> requirements by Ordinance. <br /> Shall the above described amendment be adopted? <br /> Yes 452 votes <br /> No 6 votes <br /> 2. Requiring consent of the City Commission to hire or terminate the Chief of <br /> Police: The City Charter currently requires that the City Manager shall be <br /> responsible for the appointment, supervision and removal of all City <br /> employees except for the Office of the City Attorney and his/her staff It is <br /> hereby proposed that the consent of the City Commission be necessary to hire <br /> or fire the Police Chief, provided that the City Manager is responsible for the <br /> supervision of the Police Chief. <br /> Shall the above described amendment be adopted? <br /> Yes 395 votes <br /> No 67 votes <br /> R2013-Accept Special Election Results 060413 <br /> • <br />
